Solar DistillationThe Solar Water Purifier is a device created by Mr. John Ward, a retired Physics Scientist. The Purifier is the most efficient unit of its type in the world and the current Mark 4 unit will, by solar distillation, produce up to 3 litres per day at 28°C. when arranged in array format of 12 units, this becomes a viable tool for the production of high quality distilled water. When coupled with hot water from a solar pond, the output can reach 7 litres per day when running 24 hours. The process working at above 65°C kills most water borne diseases. To complete the purification process at night, a UV light is used on the water collected to ensure quality.
Operation Saline ground water is pumped through a manifold of pipe work laid in the solar pond. The stored heat of the pond is conducted into the ground water, raising the temperature to over 60°c. This hot ground water is then fed to the solar water purifiers. Then by solar distillation and the heat of the ground water, pure distilled water is collected into storage tanks. The separated waste water is recycled to extract the maximum amount of available water for commercial uses. The residual hypersaline waste is used to either maintain the solar pond or dispersed to evaporation trays. Here the salt is allowed to form into its crystalline state. This is removed and the remaining bitterns and other residual chemicals may be harvested. |
